in with michele obama, a portion of michele obama's speech, what did you think of it? >> it was a great speech, it really was. so many personal anecdotes you could visualize. we were talking last week about how ann romney said a lot of great things about mitt romney but never gave you the visuals. john said it best. who in america are in that convention hall -- or in that convention hall watching the speech didn't get the image of a loving father struck with ms, seeing his two children sat the top of the stairs and fighting and struggling to get up those stairs to hug his children at the end of the day or fighting and struggling to get out of bad to go to work to give them a slice of the american dream. it was an absolutely fantastic speech. and the great line, absolutely loved the line, that being president doesn't change who you are, it reveals who you are. >> very personal, very revealing but it also might have accomplished something in terms of touching on some key areas that might have needed some work, not that the president, you would think, had a problem with the women's vote. >> right
and his wife, michele obama. >> michele was unbelievable. >> and joe biden. >> john kerry. >> john kerry did well, biden did well, clinton was incredible, michele obama was incredible. but you know, it -- >> it's a high bar to clear for the guy. >> and also, though, if you want to compare it to tampa, i mean, obviously so much -- >> they had to hold everyone back. >> so much better than everybody at tampa. we're not going to even -- but as far as substance goes, i agree. >> beautiful. >> he said nothing, but he said nothing so much better than mitt romney said nothing. >> yeah. >> which i was talking -- >> that's it. >> let's be clear, we were talking about how high the bar was for obama. talk about mitt romney, it's a low bar for mitt romney to clear that bar. he was somewhere in between those things. i thought the first two-thirds of the speech, and many people have said this, it did feel like a state of the union speech. little bit of a laundry list and very -- not just as mark said, not only did he say nothing new, he said nothing bold and he said nothing very specific. you know, one
thinking that former first lady should run. >>> first lady michelle obama got a higher tell sahratian rating than mitt romney's wife ann. more than 26 million people watched the first night of this week's democratic convention. that's compared to about 22 million for the first night of the gop former arizona congressn gabrielle giffords is in town for the democratic convention. >>> the delegates in charlotte are reportedly paying a convention markup six times higher than normal for almost everything this week. president obama button sells for $5. a turkey bagel sandwich is going for $9. and a budget hotel room can cost up to $500. >>> and outside the convention, traffic officers on loan from georgia were literally dancing to the beat of the streets as they got local commuters and delegates on their way. their moves include tributes to michael jackson's thriller video and swaying hips like elvis. >>> and that's your morning dish of "scrambled politics." >>> and now here's your first look at how wall street is going to kick off the day. the dow closed at 13,047 after adding 11 points ye
with the military people. and in talking about veterans and jobs, the work of michelle obama and jill biden, he's bridged this international and domestic divide in ways -- >> i think you're right. the idea of the first lady and dr. biden, the second lady if you will, making a point of almost like in a civil war setting. that women taking an interest in mostly guys are getting injured badly or killed. and being out there and addressing them as individuals that are important years after the battle. >> and that is what's so unpleasant, distasteful if you will, about romney's reply on fox. when he -- imagine you're a troop in afghanistan. you know, it's 110 degrees. you're walking around with a pack and a weapon. imagine you have a loved one who is. and you hear him or her referred to as a laundry list. that's a dehumanizing of what these people are doing. to romney it's just another issue. i don't need to deal with this issue in this speech. it's not a laundry list. it's human beings. >> i like to think -- i remember this story of a super bowl game. i'm watching the pilots go over when they do it.
michelle obama finished speaking less than an hour ago and gave a heart felt speech explaining why america needs to port her husband she believes here's the highlight. >> i know from experience that if i trawl want to leave a better world for my daughters and for all of our sons and daughters, if we want to give all of our childrenal foundation for their dreams and opportunities worthy of their promise. if we want to give them that accepts of limitless possibility, their belief that here in america there is always something better out there, if you are willing to work for it, then we must work like never before. and we must once again come together l. [applause] and stand together. [applause] for the man we can trust to keep moving this great country forward. my husband, our president, barack obama.
